Dr. Cassandra Shelley
Dentist
WNCCHS—Minnie Jones Health Center
Dr. Cassandra Shelley joined WNCCHS following the completion of her General Practice Residency at the Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) in Asheville.
She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) from Virginia Commonwealth University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Carolina. While at VCU, she also conducted research related to HPV-associated oropharyngeal cancer.
Dr. Shelley was first inspired to pursue a career in dentistry through her volunteer work with Operation Smile, a nonprofit organization providing cleft surgery and comprehensive care in countries with limited access to health services.
Her participation in medical mission trips to rural areas of the Philippines and China introduced her to the field of oral health and sparked her passion for improving access to care.
Her time at MAHEC deepened her commitment to community-based dentistry and public health, ultimately leading her to join the team at WNCCHS. She was drawn to the organization’s mission, values, and strong sense of community.
Dr. Shelley’s approach to care is rooted in compassion, clear communication, and patient education. She focuses on delivering high-quality dentistry while building trust with patients and their families to ensure they feel comfortable and confident in her care.
Outside of work, Dr. Shelley enjoys staying active outdoors, fitness, and painting pet portraits.
